Lachman Chelaram - Sikhs The Supreme

Born in 1938 at Karachi, a city of Sindh the province now in Pakistan, Lachman is the fifth child among eight siblings from the family of famous Dada Chellaram; who was well known all over the Indian subcontinent and many parts of world for his melodious Gurbani Kirtan and his explanations based on the profound understanding of the teachings of the Sacred Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Following fathers’ footstep all eight children from Chellaram family have carried out Gurbani Kirtan in dedication to Guru without any desire for financial benefits. Since 1959 Lachman Chellaram has been travelling in India and abroad spreading the Divine Name through Kirtan and discourses. He has translated Guru Granth Sahib in Sindhi (both Devnagari and Arabic scripts), Hindi, Punjabi, Gujrati, Marathi, Bengali and English. He has published altogether over 100 books on Guru Granth and Gurbani, without keeping any copyrights for his publications. He regularly travels to Sindh and Punjab in Pakistan visiting Sikh and Sindhi communities in that country. Sindhi Community all around the world admires his soulful Kirtan and fondly calls him Dada Lachman Chellaram.

Dada Lachman got his inspiration at the young age for seva of Guru Granth Sahib and devotion to the Gurbani from his father Poojya Pita Dada Chellaram and mother Poojya Maata Gopi Bai. The elder sister dear Didi Kamla Devi’s pious life and dedication to Guru Bani also molded his thoughts and led him to path of spirituality. His beloved Dharam Patni Rami Devi also encouraged him to progress on the path of pursuit of Naam.

Dada Lachman thus deeply inspired by his devoted parents and dear Didi as also fully supported by his beloved wife has embarked upon the roohani path of “Aap Japo Aura Naam Japao”. Over fifty years, he has continuously travelled all over India and several countries around the globe spreading the sacred message of Holy Guru Granth Sahib. In his pursuit to reach out to all communities and the regions in India he has translated Sri Gru Granth Sahib from original Gurmukhi language into Hindi, Sindhi, English, Gujrati and Marathi. He has also translated Sukhmani Sahib in Arbi, Devnagari and Romanized Sindhi scripts, Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujrati, Bengali, Urdu and English. Dada Lachman is a true scholar of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. With profound knowledge and understanding of this Holy Scripture, Dada also possesses the rare gift of rendering melodious kIrtan along with enchanting kathaa. His keertan and kathaa is quite devotional and philosophical. Dada Lachman travels extensively, over eight months each year and renders Keertan Katha programs where ever he goes, even two to three times a day, starting with melodious Asa Ki Var at early morning hours. Dada has very well succeeded in bringing together the scattered Sindhi community all over the world by reviving and spreading the Holy message of Naam. Dada Lachman is very aptly regarded as a tireless practicing true preacher of Gurbani by Sindhis, Punjabis and Sikh community alike.
