Dr. JS. Grewal - Sikhs The Supreme

Former Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak University Dr. J.S. Grewal was appointed as Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS), Shimla, a prestigious and high profile institute of Govt. of India, and later on he was promoted as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute. A great historian, Dr. Grewal's special fields in history are medieval India and Sikh history. His book “Guru Nanak in History” published in 1969 earned him D.Lit degree from the University of London.

For his outstanding contribution to academics he was conferred upon Padam Shree by the President of India. After getting Padam Shree, Dr. Grewal indicated about drastic reforms to be brought in the functioning of the Institute, in 2005, in view of saffronisation of the Institute. He himself said, “more than NCERT books, saffronisatioin is more at intellectual centres like IIAS. Two volumes of 'History of Medieval India' by Dr. Grewal were published by the Oxford University Press.
